Can't believe it has been that long since I last wrote in this little corner. So what's being going on in the world of NKWW?

Lots of instruments rescued from lofts, shelves during lockdown, kept me ticking in a modest way for eighteen months or so. A couple of rebuilds, and some time to learn and practice skills.

Since we were all let out of the box again, it has been a steady stream of instruments coming through the workshop, a certain amount of head scratching, but always willing help from members of the National Association of |Musical Instrument Repairers, of which I am a proud member.

I think my favourite moment has been after an overhaul of a nice Alto sax, it was returned with a frantic call the following weekend, where "it's just not playing any of the low notes!" B!"eing the good customer focused chap that I am, I met the young student (and her Dad) at the workshop, to see what I had missed (I would add It was playing beautifully when I put it back in its case!)

On demonstrating the lack of musical sounds from said sax, it was handed to me.

Turning my back briefly, I handed it straight back and told the young lady to try again. Ah, a perfect scale came forth! "Brilliant!" said the student, "what did you do?"

With that I produced the sax sling from my pocket, and asked if she was missing anything. ", Ahh.......err....... I wondered where it had gone" said the red faced student. "Well, it was stuffed in the bell, so that's why it wouldn't play!" problem solved, and much hilarity all round. Another satisfied customer!
