Where has the summer gone?

I've finally got round to adding to this blog. I can't believe it's been so long since the last post. Although there has been plenty of short posts on my Facebook page, Nigel King Woodwind Repairs.

As some of you will know, the workshop overlooks a lovely garden, and despite the shrub (dubbed Audrey 2, after the Little Shop of Horrors musical) and its best efforts to obscure the window (I'm sure the resident lawn mole and the shrub are in collusion) it's a lovely place to go and work.

This summer has seen a steady stream of instruments passing over the bench, and thank goodness nothing has defeated me to date. Lots of flutes, and the odd clarinet and sax have provided a satisfying end product. The fact that the instrument goes back in better condition than when it arrived is a good feeling.

Oddly I had two Bass clarinets in for some TLC one after another. They are wonders of engineering. There does not seem to be such a thing as a cheap bass. Wood all the way!

Summer seems to have flown by in a flash as I look from the window past a well shorn Audrey, the Rowan trees are changing colour to riotous reds and gold, and that tells me the heater will soon need to make an appearance.

On some summer days it's been lovely working away with the door open, TMS on the radio and just the company of the cows grazing in the field next door.

Something I think I might develop here is introducing some of the music I listen to while i'm working. Those of you who know me will be aware of my love for choral music, so expect some plugs and comments in the future.
